Nisha Thirkwell’s current collection is a commitment to beauty and tradition. Inspired by symbols of secrecy and loss, and with influences ranging from Victorian mourning jewellery to treasures hidden in dusty attic boxes, the collection connotes feelings of romance and lost time. Symbolic images of luck, love and time are re used and re cast in precious modern metals to create new meaning whilst leaving poignant reminders of a time gone by, a pocket watch, a wishbone, a key with no lock. This commitment to the old is reflected in Thirkwell’s use of traditional cage work, a labour intensive and time consuming method that mirrors Thirkwell’s use of vintage and highly decorative statement pieces.
